Lieutenant John "Johnny" H.F. Cordes
Beyond the Line of Duty
John "Johnny" H.F. Cordes is one of ONLY three members in the
history of the New York City Police Department to be awarded it's
highest honor, the Medal of Honor TWICE. Cordes is the ONLY officer  
to have NOT been awarded his second Medal of Honor posthumously.

August 24, 1915 appointed to the New York City Police Department
February 11, 1918 promoted to Detective
1924 Medal Day awarded the Medal of Honor (1st award)
1927 Medal Day awarded the Medal of Honor (2nd award)
February 15, 1928 promoted to Sergeant
March 2, 1934 promoted to acting Lieutenant
January 1, 1950 retired from the New York City Police Department
